In so many occasions I used to say that "why don't we take the good of all ways?"
I mean take the good of the traditional way and leave the bad in it, put some of the good new ideas from nowadays ways to make your own story.. exactly like what happen to me.
I still believe that this decision is not limited only to the couple .. it's a family matter all participate in it.
So who ever starts ( mother or the suitor) to find a fiancee at the end they all have to approve along with the girls's family on the matching.
Engagement period show be taked seriosly ..and I have doubts to put trust only on the sense of the boy and girl ... parents show do some efforts for advices.
so many successful love stories were a divorce cases in the courts .. love is not enoght to make the marrage last ... so many factors playing to save this new formed family and elder family members mosly see them better than young fellows.
I hope I made my point clear.

yeah sweetie bab al 7ara is good example of the women used to be treated in the past and you may not think that bs that was the truth they were dominated by men that's why marriage lasts coz she has no word and no personality she was mere servant for the man lol and arranged marriage is reminder of this shameful past
lakan marriage without the girl meeting who she'll spend her WHOLE life with ?
where is the brain that make us above animals ?

I came across a video today, where Wafa Sultan spoke (I admire her for her boldness and standing up for what she thinks and believes). Was really shocked about some things she shared.  (she is not an outsider, who has no clue) There must be real misery in some women lives in the Middle East even today with odd traditions and practices…, (especially when girls are forced to marry or have to meet the expectation of the family against their will).
There can be also misery, when you go to online dating clubs and other practices in the West, this doesn’t mean there is everything beautiful, but that’s not the issue here right now…
A girl should always have the chance to make a choice: if a marriage is arranged, there should never be any force used in any way (also not mentally), it should be with her full agreement. I don’t know if this can always be achieved in the Arab society…?

...well, wanted to add that I believe God sometimes arranges marriages, too (there are great examples in the Bible to support this fact)
